01 Objective
The ASN handoff gives the warehouse executable information before arrival so it can plan dock capacity, labor, equipment, locations, and receiving tasks.
02 Preconditions
- Master bill, container, ETD, ETA, delivery location, and contact are complete.
- Packing list identifies SKU, cartons, pieces, and UOM.
- Invoice, bill, manifest, and required import documents are uploaded.
- Missing files and estimated duty have owners.
03 WMS Receiving Steps
- Create or link the Inbound Order and Receiving Schedule from the ASN.
- Verify customer, PO, SKU, cartons, pallets, and planned arrival.
- Generate receiving labels and devanning or tally tasks.
- Record received quantity, shortages, overages, damage, and photos.
- Complete putaway and inbound posting, then update shipment status.
04 Differences
Update the ASN before changing the appointment when container, bill, or ETA changes. Do not overwrite expected quantity with received quantity; retain both and record the reason.
